The government has made amendments to its rules for staying in the United Arab Emirates. Prior to these changes, people on visit visas in the UAE resided even after the expiration of their visit visas. However, as per new rules, the government has decided that upon expiration of the visit visa here in the country, there will be no grace period for visitors to reside and it would be considered illegal.

Such individuals who will be overstaying in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, or any other Emirates after the expiration of their visitor visa shall be liable to pay an overstay fine for this. Moreover, the visit visa fine check should be done prior to leaving the country. Otherwise, you will not be eligible to depart from the country legally.

UAE Overstay Fine

If your visit visa is expired and you are living in the country illegally, you are liable to pay for overstay fine to the UAE government. The penalty for overstay is AED 50 per day after the expiration of the grace period of your visitor visa.

You will have a grace period of six months to leave the country or apply for another visa in case of visa cancellation by the UAE government.

Moreover, the overstayers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or any other Emirates will be required to obtain an outpass along with paying the overstay fine. This outpass costs AED 300 and should have to be acquired if you are overstaying in the country after visa expiration.

How to Do UAE Overstay Fine Check?

You can check visa fines in UAE by the following methods.

ICP Website:

• Visit the official ICP website.
• Now select ‘Public Services’ from the top column
• After that, choose the ‘Fines and Leave Permits’ option.
• You will see the option ‘FINES – PAY FINES – VIOLATIONS OF ENTRY PERMISSIONS OR RESIDENCES – PAY NEW FINE’. On this option, select ‘Start Service’
• Fill in all the required details on it, that are, visa file number, date of birth, and current nationality.
• Now check the ‘I’m not a robot’ box and then click on search.

You will then be able to see the required dues on your overstay in the UAE.

GDRFA Website:

• Start by visiting the official GDRFA website.
• Now select the ‘File type’ on the menu as shown, whether resident or permit.
• Fill in all the other required details on the web page.
• Now check the ‘I’m not a robot’ box and then click on ‘Submit’.

You will then be able to know the required penalty charges in your name.

Payment of UAE Overstay Fines

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship has provided a way through which you can pay your UAE overstay fines online.

• Start by visiting the official ICA website.
• Now click on the ‘Virtual Assistant’ i.e. Ask Hamad at the bottom right of the screen.
• After answering with your desired language and name, select ‘E-services’ from the provided options.
• Now select ‘Apply for a new service’
• Then click on the ‘Pay Fines’ option and enter your Unified Number.
• Now enter your date of birth (MM/DD/Year) and confirm
•  After doing this process, you will come across your required dues (if any) and a link will also be provided for payment of fines.
• Click on the provided link and you will be redirected to a web page to pay for your fines.

Finally, you can confirm your details and pay for your penalties. Upon successful payment, a notification will then be sent to you from the ICA along with your transaction number. Save it for future reference.

Fine Waiver for UAE Overstayers

Individuals residing in the country whose visitor visa has expired and even after the grace period, they do not get it extended, nor do they leave the Emirates are subject to a UAE visa fine check. However, for those who do not unintentionally leave the country or who are residing due to some intractable circumstances, are given some relaxation from the government of the UAE.

Such individuals who are residing because of any compulsion can contact the GDRFA for that matter in order to avail of a fine waiver by the government. However, the matter rests solely with the GDRFA authority and it is up to them whether they approve or reject your application.

Following are the steps that you can follow if that is the case:

Visa Fine Waiver UAE Documents Required

Required Documents:

• Cancellation paper (if exiting UAE)
• Copy of visa (file number) with fines
• NOC / Petition (Arabic) requesting reduction of fines
• Applying for fine reduction with GDRFA UID number for newborns
• E -visa approved recently (to apply for a status change)
• A copy of the sponsor’s Emirates ID and passport visa
• Passport and visa of the applicant

Health-related causes

• A medical report issued by the Health Authority or Ministry in Arabic mentioning both the entry and exit dates from the hospital.
• Company or Applicant’s or Sponsor’s petition letter

A company’s sponsorship

• A copy of visa and passport of the applicant.
• License for trade
• A petition letter issued by the company with the company’s stamp upon it
• Copy of establishment card
• Sponsor / Partner / Public Relations Officer’s original Emirates ID

Legal or judicial matters

• A letter addressing the relevant authorities is required in the case of passport retention or confiscation
• A petition letter issued from the company sponsoring the applicant

Family Sponsorship

• A document supporting the reason for overstaying must be submitted as well
• A copy of the sponsor’s visa and passport
